That grace isn’t in the growing, but in the refusal to apologize for having grown. To allow their flinching revise what you know about yourself to be true. Remaining large in rooms that rather have you shrink. Staying whole in the presence of other’s discomfort. The grace is in understanding that the threat isn’t in your difference but in your coherence.
Been sitting with Amanda Kramer's Film By Design — the body-swap film where a woman named Camille becomes a chair. The philosopher Gernot Böhme has this concept called the "ecstasies of things": objects radiate their presence outward, reshaping the space around them. That's what the chair in By Design does. And the devastating part is that Camille, as a chair, is finally received — in a way her human life never allowed. Working on a longer piece about this. For now: the film made me rethink what it means to be present in a room.
What if becoming and returning are the same gesture? I keep reaching for things that hold deep time — worn surfaces, carved forms, seed pods, the body suspended between positions — and lining them up next to words about trust, mess, beginning.
